Plymouth YMCA U14 V AFC Southway U14

Plymouth YMCA through on penalties!! 3-0.

With a full squad available Plymouth YMCA decided to go with a change to their normal formation in an effort to stifle the AFC Southway side who beat them in the league last week.  The change in tactics and personnel worked and a very close game was watched by suppoters from both sides as the two teams played out a 0-0 draw in full time.  Both sides could have won the game in normal time but the ever dependable Morgan Taylor made with a string of amazing saves to ensure that Plymouth YMCA would get the opportunity to take AFC Southway into extra time.  Gary Heasman worked hard up front for Plymouth YMCA and was a constant threat to the AFC Southway goal, hitting the post once and slotting just wide of the post on a number of occasions.  AFC Southway also had their chances but with Bradley Ogden and Karl White working well together in the Plymouth YMCA defence these were few and far between.  However, with Plymouth YMCA looking quite comfortable it was AFC Southway who could have taken the lead but their long range shot hit the bar.  With the full time whistle blowing both teams looked forward to the first half of extra time.  As the first period of extra time kicked off it was evident that both sides had some tired players in their ranks but the effort displayed by both teams was commendable but at the end of extra time the result remained 0-0 and the game had to be decided by penalties.  With 5 players desperate to take penalties for Plymouth YMCA, Jack Thorton stepped up confidently, only to shoot over the bar.  Luckily the AFC Southway player also shot over and with Plymouth YMCA scoring all their following penalties it was Morgan Taylor who was once again the hero for Plymouth YMCA, making two good saves to ensure he conceded nothing all game!  With Nike Town, Josh Edwards and Gary Heasman scoring their penalties Plymouth YMCA won the game 3-0.

Unsurprsingly Morgan Taylor was named man of the match for Plymouth YMCA while Tom Cowan took the honurs for AFC Southway.

Well done boys - you worked hard and deserved the win!

Plymouth YMCA U14 V AFC Plympton U14

Gary Heasman (2)

AFC Plympton started the game strongly and for the early part of the first half they were camped out in Plymouth YMCA's half.  Plymouth YMCA soaked up the pressure well limiting AFC Plympton to a handful of long range shots which rarely troubled Morgan Taylor between the sticks.  On the two occasions where Plymouth YMCA allowed AFC Plympton too much freedom their shots at goal were well wide.  With Karl White moving into the back four Plymouth YMCA had the measure of the AFC Plympton strike force and started to come into the game in their own right forcing the AFC Plympton keeper, Jordan Holden, into a making a couple of good saves.  With Plymouth YMCA pushing for a goal the referee blew up for half time.  The second half started with Plymouth YMCA pressing yet again but they could not find the back of the net.  Some poor decision making saw AFC Plympton nick a goal against the run of play.  Minutes later Plymouth YMCA's goal threat, Gary Heasman was hacked down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty only for the keeper to save from the confident Gary Heasman.  Making amends Gary Heasman then levelled the score at 1-1 after some good interplay.  Plymouth YMCA continued to push for their second and with 15 minutes to go Gary Heasman nipped in front of the oncoming AFC Plympton keeper to score his and Plymouth YMCA's second.  The game then ebbed and flowed with both teams spurning good goal scoring chances.  With 10 minutes to go, the game got more physical and the referee allowed AFC Plympton to make 2 or 3 bad tackles which went unpunished, infuriating the Plymouth YMCA Manager, coach and parents.  AFC Plympton battled to the end and were rewarded with an equaliser minutes form time due to some indecision by a couple of the Plymouth YMCA players.  The game finished 2 - 2.

Plymouth YMCA's Lewis Andrews was named man of the match while AFC Plymptons keeper, Jordan Holden took the honours for the opposition.

Ivybridge Town U14 V Plymouth YMCA U14

Result 5-1

Gary Heasman

With Plymouth YMCA wary of the prolific Ivybridge Town striker Bill Rowells they started the game with a five man midfield.  Plymouth YMCA kicked off and scored probably their quickest ever goal with six touches from the kick off.  Gary Heasman easily converting the goal.  They should have gone two up moments later but it was not to be.  The first of many refereeing blunders saw Ivybridge Town level after committing a foul in the box on Dominic Jennings.  With the goal declared the referee then decided to consult the linesman who had been flagging vigorously only to rightly reverse the decision to disallow the goal much to the annoyance of the Ivybridge Manager.  Feeling hard done by Ivybridge Town continued to push and were rewarded for their endeavours with a soft goal as Plymouth YMCA failed to clear their lines or make the decisive tackle.  With both teams attacking, trying to get their nose in front, Ivybridge Town scored another goal with a strike that was some how bungled into the next after hitting two Plymouth YMCA players.  Morgan Taylor continued to work hard in goal making numerous saves to ensure that Plymouth YMCA stayed in the game.  In addition Jack Thornton also cleared off the line.  With a free kick being awarded to Plymouth YMCA centre back Bradley Ogden unfortunately hit the cross bar.  Ivybridge grabbed their third goal late into the first half.  The second half kicked off and again it was Plymouth YMCA who looked more threatening with Josh Edwards hitting the post and the Ivybridge keeper making a coupe of easy saves.  Ivybridge Town were awarded a penalty after Nike Town was wrongly accused of fouling an Ivybridge player as the referee continued his inconsistent practice,  To add insult to injury he also showed Nike Town a yellow card.  The resulting penalty was however over hit and the ball fizzed over the bar.  Throwing caution to the wind Plymouth YMCA made some changes, putting three strikers up front and going three at the back.  The tactic almost worked but Ivybridge Town sneaked a fourth goal as Plymouth YMCA pushed for that elusive goal.  The game got more physical but the referee on numerous occasions appeared to be content not to take any action even when players started to back chat and slide tackle.  With Ivybridge Town scoring their fifth goal the game was won and the referee blew for full time.

Plymouth YMCA's stopper, Morgan Taylor was was named man of the match while the honours for Ivybridge Town went to Jake Harmieson.

Ivybridge Town U14 V Plymouth YMCA U14

Result 7 - 3

Lewis Andrews and Harry Jennings (2)

As last week,  Plymouth YMCA went 1-0 up within 2 minutes of kick off with Lewis Andrews slotting home.  From the resulting kick off though, Ivybridge Town hit back right away with Billy Rowell scoring his first goal of the game.  Ivybridge Town dominated the first 10 minutes of the game with Plymouth YMCA rarely breaking into their opponents half but when they did they looked very likely to score but some how it was not to be.  After a couple of changes to personnel, enforced by injuries Plymouth YMCA laboured much in the first half which allowed Billy Rowell to secure his first half hat trick.  The first half finished at 4 - 1 to Ivybridge Town.  The second half saw Plymouth YMCA come out fighting and they were rewarded with a goal from Harry Jennings from a Karl White free kick.  Harry Jennings scored again after some good work by Josh Edwards on the left.  With Ivybridge Town leading 4 - 3 Plymouth YMCA continued to battle hard for the elusive equaliser but the Ivybridge Town defence stood firm.  With 10 mins to go Morgan Taylor continued to produce some excellent saves and his bravery, with a Ivybridge Town player bearing down on him, was rewarded with a bloody nose as he saved with his face.  Some sloppy defending was once more Plymouth YMCA's downfall and late on with Ivybridge scoring 3 goals the game was lost  7 - 3..

Harry Jennings was was named man of the match for Plymouth YMCA while the honours for Ivybridge Town went to Billy Rowell

Plymouth YMCA 4 - 7 Tavistock Thistles

Davies, Heasman (2) and Edwards 1

Depleted through injuries and absenteeism Plymouth YMCA dominated the first 10 minutes of the game and were unlucky not to go ahead.  Unfortunately for Plymouth YMCA it was Tavistock Thistles took the lead with a well taken shot.  Soon after though Plymouth YMCA were on level terms after a goal mouth scramble saw Dan Davies poke home his first league goal.  The game was pretty even for the rest of the half but Tavistock Thistles once again took the lead only for Gary Heasman to level a little later.

The second half kicked off and Tavistock took the lead soon after that and soon were 4-2 up.  A further change was forced upon Plymouth YMCA when Bradley Ogden pulled up injured as he needed some treatment for the injury he played with.  Unfortunately for Plymouth YMCA, Karl White, another centre back also had to come off through injury.  He was replaced by Bradley Ogden still nursing his injury and Plymouth YMCA shuffled the pack again.  Gary Heasman then scored for Plymouth YMCA sparking thoughts of a win or at least a draw.  Those thoughts were short lived as Tavistock Thistle hit Plymouth YMCA on the break.  Tavistock Thistles then went onto to score a further two goals to make it 7-4 to Tavistock Thistles.

Plymouth YMCAs Jack Thornton was named man of the match while Josh Mcdonald took the honours for Tavistock Thistles for keeping Plymouth YMCA at bay.

With a little more luck Plymouth YMCA could have won this and at some point their hard work will pay off and they will hit somebody for six.

Plymouth YMCA 3 - 8 Hooe Rovers

Heasman, Town and Andrews

Plymouth YMCA took the lead early on in this game with Gary Heasman sliding and poking in a left foot shot.  Hooe Rovers soon equalised moments later after a goal mouth scramble.  Individual errors and a helping hand from the referee saw Hooe Rovers take a 5-1 lead with minutes to go in the first half when somehow a penalty was awared to Hooe Rovers.  Morgan Taylor made the save but the incompetent referee decided that he moved off his line prior to making the save.  The re-taken penalty was converted while the Plymouth YMCA Manager, trainer and parents looked on open mouthed and dumb founded!

Feeling hard done by the Plymouth YMCA Team came out fighting in the second half only for the 12th member of the Hooe Rover Teams aka the referee to award yet another soft and unexplicable penalty.  Justice was served however as the Hooe Rovers player blasted the ball high and over the bar.

Plymouth YMCA scored a further two goals in the second half, both Nike Town and Lewis Andrews tapping home but it was not enough as Hooe Rovers also scored another two goals to make it 8-3 to Hooe Rovers.  Plymouth YMCA should be proud of their second half performance and the effort given by the team which saw some great interplay and movement but ultimately it was too little too late.

Morgan Taylor was awarded man of the match for Plymouth YMCA while Alex McGuire took the honours for Hooe Rovers.

The Plymouth YMCA parents voted the referee man of the match as his impact had catastrophic consequences for Plymouth YMCA.
